LOW-LEVEL LASER THERAPY Treatment In Hyderabad – Imagine a tool that could reduce pain, improve healing of wounds, relieve muscle tension and regenerate nerves without the use of drugs and the associated adverse effects. Although it may sound far fetched, it’s a therapeutic technology that has been used clinically for decades: low-level laser therapy (LLLT).

What is Low-Level Laser Therapy?

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also referred to as phototherapy or photobiomodulation, uses light energy from lasers or light-emitting diodes to elicit cellular and biological responses in the body. Light photons work on various cell processes to stimulate the release of cellular energy, which can be used to restore normal cell morphology and function.

How does low-level laser therapy work?

In contrast to a focused laser beam that concentrates photons in order to cut, ablate, or destroy tissue, Low-Level Laser Therapy is a defocused beam that does not appreciably elevate the tissue temperature and should not destroy tissue. Lasers designed for LLLT are sometimes referred to as “cold lasers.” Lasers work by affecting certain elements within target tissues that absorb specific wavelengths of radiation, which are called Chromophores.

The term “Photostimulation” is often used to describe the effects of LLLT because it tends to stimulate and promote the growth and healing of injured tissues. Published effects in various situations have been explained in the literature for several situations.

What are the various uses of Low-Level Laser Therapy in dentistry?

In dentistry, photobiomodulation can be used for many things including:\

  • Treatment of stress ulcers and traumatic ulcers.
  • Reduction of oral edema.
  • Post-operative pain relief following periodontic procedures, oral surgery, and endodontic procedures.
  • Treatment of recurrent intraoral and labial herpes infections
  • Management of inflammatory conditions such as erosive lichen planus.
  • Reduce pain experienced during orthodontic treatment.
  • Management of temporomandibular joint disorders.
  • For reducing dental sensitivity

How is LLLT used?

A specialised handpiece is used to perform low level laser therapy. At ALUX DENTAL we use the Gemini Laser by Ultradent which is operated in defocus mode to perform low level laser therapy.

Is Low-Level Laser Therapy Safe?

One of the most intriguing aspects of LLLT is safety. Lasers only elicit responses from cells that can utilize the energy produced, thus will have no negative effect on healthy cells. In the various studies done on laser therapy, no clinical side effects have been reported. The Gemini Laser by Ultradent we use at ALUXDENTAL is tissue-specific equipment which is US FDA approved and one of the safest lasers available for treatment.
